Children and young adults are curious, spontaneous, imaginative, energetic, and sometimes completely unpredictable. When planning your family portraits with a two-year-old that won’t sit still is a wonderful challenge to have. Our advice is to let go of any expectations of cooperation and think more along the lines of a family play-date. This does not have to be a formal family portrait session- your memories of our session should bring back memories of natural joy and beauty.

Don’t prepare your family for “family portrait day”. This expectation may result in unnecessary stress for everyone. Depending on the style of family portraits you want, children are sometimes encouraged to run around and play, jump, cuddle or get a little sandy on the beach. Our main goal is to capture connections, emotions, spontaneous expressions and natural smiles that not only bring back great memories of the day with your family but capture it to enjoy for years to come.

If your goals are less of a documentary style and more of a formal family portrait, Artisan Portrait will ensure your expectations are met with a formal session either outdoors or our indoor studio.
